Centrifugal Pumps Mechanical Seal

dry gas mechanical Seal

Centrifugal pump means quick installation, low maintenance, and easy repair. Most centrifugal pumps must be gravity fed or utilized with a priming chamber; some are self-priming. You can control the flow rate by restricting the flow at the outlet with a nozzle or valve, and in most cases, you can restrict the outlet indefinitely without damaging the pump. Fluid enters axially through eye of the casing, is caught up in the impeller blades, and is whirled tangentially and radially outward until it leaves through all circumferential parts of the impeller into the diffuser part of the casing.

However, centrifugal pumps should not be run dry.The fluid gains both velocity and pressure while passing through the impeller. The doughnut-shaped diffuser, or scroll, section of the casing decelerates the flow and further increases the pressure.

Types of the centrifugal pumps:

  • Magnetic drive centrifugal pumps operate with a magnetic field that couples the impeller and motor together. There are no shafts or seals connecting the impeller and motor.
  • Mechanically coupled centrifugal pumps utilize a rotating impeller driven by a shaft with a seal that is connected to the motor.
  • Feed pumps for spraying systems.
  • General fluid transfer
  • Line cleaning/irrigation
  • Pilot plant processing

Advantages of the Centrifugal Pumps Seal:

  • Simplicity
  • Compactness
  • Weight saving
  • Adaptability to high speed prime movers.
  • There is almost no noise.
  • There are very less frictional losses.
  • pump has almost have 100 efficiency.
  • Centrifugal pump use magnetic coupling which breakup on high load eliminating the risk of damaging the motor.

Disadvantage of centrifugal Pumps seal:

  • Centrifugal Pumps is their relatively poor suction power. when pump end is dry, thr rotation of the impeller, even at high speeds, is simply not sufficent to lift liquid into the pump. The pump must be primed before pumping can being.
  • Unexpected heavy load may cause the coupling to slip
  • Because of the magnetic resistance there is some energy losses
  • ferrous particles in liquid are problematic when you are using magnetic drive. This is because particle collect at impeller and cause the stoppage of pump after some time
